How We Work

We partner with organisations to investigate, design, and test solutions - building an innovation team directly connected to frontline voices, and running fast, information-rich cycles that turn insight into action. Every project is nimble.

Our AAA process

Ask, Analyse, Action runs inside a broader behavioural science and human-centred design framework: Investigate, Design, Test.

We set clear goals and how we’ll measure them, combining relevant quantitative and administrative data, in-person investigation, and our digital approaches. We work in partnership to create:

  • A shared innovation team: Colectiv specialists embedded alongside your staff.
  • Embedded feedback loops: Frontline staff and service users shape every stage.
  • Hands-on collaboration: Workshops, co-design, and review meetings where decisions are made together.

We bring the tech, analysis, and research skills; you bring context, expertise, and relationships. Together, we will investigate, design and test to achieve measurable impact.

Investigate

Start with a ground-truth picture of behaviours, motivations, and the system to focus the work.

  • Ask: Gather insight from those closest to the challenge (AI-assisted interviews, in-person research), combined with relevant quantitative data.
  • Analyse: Rapid, researcher-led thematic analysis surfaces patterns that shape strategy.
  • Action: Workshops to interrogate the data, and align on priorities.

Example: In Tanzania, we rapidly analysed 26 interviews in 4 hours to understand Mpox awareness. Health workers reported low public recognition, so our recommendation focused messaging on one clear next step: “Call 199 if you have an unusual rash with fever.”

Design

Co-create solutions based on our investigation, and adapt them with rapid feedback.

  • Ask: Capture reactions from frontline staff and service users to prototypes.
  • Analyse: Identify what resonates, what doesn’t, and why.
  • Action: Refine, prototype, and pilot in real contexts - short, focused cycles.

Example: With Waltham Forest, a citizen panel (n=52) highlighted factors that would help new food-waste bins be used more: higher quality bins and seeing the environmental impact. The council adjusted service and comms before full rollout.

Test

Validate what works, and learn why, so you can scale with confidence.

  • Ask: Keep listening during implementation.
  • Analyse: Combine qualitative insight with monitoring data.
  • Action: Adjust, scale, or pivot based on evidence. Where appropriate, we run RCTs against the goals we set together.

Example: In Türkiye we interviewed 152 frontline humanitarian workers in 48 hours about hygiene kits, surfacing crowd-control and targeting issues (“Stampede is a big problem”) and practical kit tweaks. Findings fed directly into the next distribution cycle.

If you want programmes that learn faster, adapt smarter, and deliver measurable impact, we can help you build the system to make it happen. Want to chat to see how this could work with your organisation? Please just send us a brief message to: hello@colectiv.tech.
